Frequently Asked Questions

  1. 1. How often should I change my plaster?

Usually, it is recommended to change dressings daily due to hygienic reasons. Some advanced plasters such as the Elastoplast Fast Healing™ plasters that provide moist wound healing conditions are recommended to be left in place for two days or more in order not to interrupt the healing process.
  2. 2. Is it better to keep small wounds uncovered?

No. It is a wound care myth that keeping minor cuts and grazes uncovered helps them heal faster. The contrary is true. Research shows that covered wounds heal more efficiently and have a reduced risk of infection. Elastoplast products provide safe protection until the wound is completely healed.
  3. 3. When should I consult a doctor?

We recommend to contact a medical professional under the following circumstances:

    • If the wound is deep and causes major bleeding.
    • If the wound shows signs of infection such as redness, warmth, pain and swelling.
    • If foreign objects are embedded in the wound.
    • In case of an animal or human bite or in case of contact with animal blood.
    • If the wound is in the face.
    • If there is insufficient tetanus vaccination and of course any time you have questions or are uncertain.
  4. 4. What if my wound gets infected and suppurates?

Contact a medical professional as soon as you recognize signs of infection. Symptoms include not only the occurrence of pus but also swelling, redness, warmth, pain, itching or burning. In case of infection the wound will need medical care and special medical treatment.
  5. 5. Which Elastoplast plaster are waterproof and water resistant?

Among others, the Elastoplast Waterproof, Elastoplast Antibacterial WaterproofElastoplast Invisible Protection as well as the Elastoplast Fast Healing™ and Elastoplast Heavy Fabric Waterproof plasters are waterproof and will not come off after your shower. Also, all Elastoplast Plastic as well as the Elastoplast Chrildren plasters are water resistant.
  6. 6. Which plasters do you recommend for wounds on fingers?

For injuries and wounds on hands and fingers we recommend our special Elastoplast Fabric Hand Pack. These plasters come in three different shapes and are especially suitable for fingertips and knuckles. In case you are looking for a waterproof solution please refer to the Elastoplast Waterproof Hand Pack.
