Frequently Asked Questions
1. Can I use the Elastoplast Scar Reducer for all types of scars?
Clinical studies have proven Elastoplast Scar Reducer to be extremely effective in the treatment of hypertrophic scars. In most cases the scars become less visible as after the treatment they will most likely be flatter, lighter in color and softer. Elastoplast Scar Reducer can be used for both older and recent scars – on the face or body. No side effects are known. The product can be safely used even during pregnancy.
2. How do the Elastoplast Scar Reducer work?
The patches don't contain any active ingredients. They are breathable and encourage the skin's own regeneration process by creating an ideal wound climate. The temperature level of the scar tissue is increased amd enzyme activity as well as metabolic processes are stimulated and that way activate restructuring processes in the scar tissue.
3. How to use Elastoplast Scar Reducer?
Cover your scar with the elastic and skin-friendly patches. The ideal usage time is 24 hours a day, with a minimum of 12 hours recommended. For hygienic reasons, the patch should be changed after 24 hours. First results will become visible after 3-4 weeks with significant and lasting success expected after 8 weeks of continuous treatment. Further improvements are possible after this time.
4. Is the Elastoplast Scar Reducer suitable for every size of scar?
Yes, definitely! If the patch doesn't cover the entire scar, several patches may be applied next to each other. For smaller scars, patches may be cut to the size needed.
5. Can my entire scar be removed by using Elastoplast Scar Reducer patches?
As with other treatment methods, it is not possible to make the scar disappear entirely by applying Elastoplast Scar Reducer patches. However, major improvement is possible.
6. Is the use of Elastoplast Scar Reducer painful?
No, not at all! Thanks to the especially gentle adhesive used, the skin-friendly patches can be worn for a number of weeks. Changing patches doesn't hurt.
7. What else should be kept in mind when caring for scars?
Recent scars shouldn't be exposed to any major temperature stimuli. Intense sunlight, extreme heat and severe cold can have adverse effects on scar formation. In addition, tight-fitting clothes that may irritate or injure the scar tissue should be avoided. Caution is also advised when stretching or exercising as damaged skin is extremely sensitive.
8. Will the Elastoplast Scar Reducer also improve the condition of my C-section scar?
Yes, if the scar is hypertrophic. Often caesarean scars are longer than the size of the Elastoplast Scar Reducer patch; in this case you should use two of them. Simply put them next to each other.
9. Can I use the Elastoplast Scar Reducer to avoid scars?
These patches are made to reduce the visibility of the scars, not to prevent them. Scar reducing treatment can be started as soon as wound healing is completed meaning as soon as the wound is completely closed and remaining sutures have been removed. However, the Elastoplast Fast Healing™ plaster for instance, provides moist wound healing conditions. Once applied to the wound it significantly reduces the risk of scarring.
10. How can the Elastoplast Scar Reducer lighten the color of the scar? Does it contain any whitening ingredients?
No, the Elastoplast Scar Reducer doesn't contain any whitening ingredients at all. The redness of a scar is an indication for the disturbed and overactivated metabolism in the scar tissue. The treatment with Elastoplast Scar Reducer patches balances the regeneration process resulting in a reduction of redness.
11. Can I take a shower with the Elastoplast Scar Reducer?
Yes, you can take a shower with the Elastoplast Scar Reducer. Even if some parts of the patch get detached, they will gain sticking power once they have dried.
12. Is the product skin-friendly?
The material of the Elastoplast Scar Reducer (polyurethane) is known to be very skin-friendly and is also suitable for sensitive skin. Products made of polyurethane are well known in professional Wound Care. The Scar Reducer patches are breathable, hydroactive and won't cause maceration beneath the patch.
13. Are there any contraindications?
No, the product is very skin-friendly and there are no contraindications. However, the product shouldn't be applied on open wounds and burns.
