5 GOOD REASONS FOR
MOIST WOUND HEALING
When it comes to dealing with a minor wound, some people like to just let the air do the healing job. Are you one of them? If yes, you might need to think again.

You’ve hurt yourself, the result is a cut or an abrasion, and you think you don’t need a plaster? Maybe you have heard somewhere that leaving your wound uncovered is the best way to deal with minor injuries. Medical research proves that the opposite is true, and that creating moist wound conditions will not only accelerate the healing process, but also prevent scarring and scabs, leading to beautiful unimpaired skin. That’s why Elastoplast Fast Healing™ wound dressings are based on the principle of moist wound healing.

Here are some valid reasons why creating moist conditions to heal your wound, no matter how big or small, will repair your skin faster and better − with a reduced risk of scarring or scabs. Find out what medical experts already know – and why this is the superior method.

1 – BECAUSE IT WILL SPEED UP THE HEALING OF YOUR SKIN
Moist wound healing allows skin to renew

In order for your wound to form new skin tissue, new cells need to form. And cell growth thrives in moist environments! The principle of moist wound therapy is to create and maintain those optimal moist conditions for your skin to renew itself. If you keep your wound moistened, covered underneath a moist wound healing plaster such as Elastoplast Fast Healing™, your cells will divide and migrate at an increased rate. This will speed up wound healing by up to 50%*!

2 – BECAUSE IT WILL PREVENT SCABS

In a moist wound healing environment, the formation of a crusty scab is prevented. This is because moist wound healing promotes growth and migration of new cells and ensures that certain proteins essential for closing your wound stay where they belong to do their repair job. Wounds that are left uncovered will always create a scab. This method makes it hard for a wound to close itself, as under these dry conditions new skin tissue will have a tough time forming.

What many do not know: A scab is not a sign of healthy healing! It actually keeps skin from healing and becoming flawless again.

3 – BECAUSE IT WILL KEEP YOUR WOUND SUPPLE

Covering your wound with a moist wound healing plaster also means keeping your wound supple, as no scab will be formed (see 2). This leads to better mobility, especially if your wound is located on joints such as knees or elbows. And on top of that, moist wound healing ensures that removing or changing your plaster remains painless as none of the newly formed tissue will come off.

4 – BECAUSE IT WILL PREVENT SCARRING
AND ENSURE BEAUTIFUL HEALING

Who wants to be reminded of an old wound at all times? Moist wound treatment is the best way to ensure quick healing. It also reduces the risk of scab formation and ultimately avoids scarring. Any moist wound healing plaster (e.g. Elastoplast Fast Healing™Elastoplast Invisible ProtectionElastoplast SOS Blister or Elastoplast SOS Burn) will deliver improved cosmetic results.

5 – BECAUSE MOIST WOUND HEALING IS SKIN-FRIENDLY

All Elastoplast moist wound healing products use skin-friendly materials that ensure high comfort (ultra-thin, flexible, breathable materials such as polyurethane, which stretch with your skin) and advanced technologies such as hydrocolloidal technology.
All of them are ideal for sensitive skin.

Elastoplast Invisible Protection: Being 100% transparent, the plasters are ideal for aesthetic wound care on hands, décolleté, legs and arms. Due to its hydrocolloidal technology, which provides a moist wound healing environment, it accelerates the healing process and reduces the risk of scarring.

Do not confuse moist wound healing with a “moist plaster”!
Do not think that applying a regular wet plaster has the same effect as creating moist wound healing conditions! It is recommended to change a regular plaster daily, especially if it gets wet in the shower. To ensure safe protection and reliable adhesion, go for Elastoplast Fast Healing™ plasters. They provide ideal moist wound healing conditions for beautiful healing of your skin, are waterproof and can stay on for several days. Depending on your needs, other alternatives that are just as advanced are the Elastoplast Scar Reducer, Elastoplast Invisible Protection, Elastoplast SOS Blister and Elastoplast SOS Burn plasters.

Comparing dry and moist wound healing *
Moist wound treatment is known to prevent formation of a scab, allowing epithelial cells to spread horizontally outwards through the thin layer of wound exudate to rapidly close the wound.
