Usually, it is recommended to change basic first aid dressings daily for hygienic reasons. Some advanced bandages such as Elastoplast Fast Healing however should be worn for two days or more to not interrupt the moist wound healing process.

It is one of the biggest wound care myths that keeping minor cuts and grazes uncovered helps them to heal faster. The contrary is actually true. Research shows that covered wounds heal quicker and have a reduced risk of infection. Elastoplast products provide the optimal protection until the wound is completely healed.

We recommend to contact a medical professional under the following circumstances:

  • if the wound is deep and bleeding extensively
  • if the wound shows signs of infection such as redness, warmth, pain and swelling.
  • if there are embedded foreign objects in the wound
  • in case of animal bites
  • and of course anytime you have questions or are uncertain about treatment

and of course always when you have questions or are uncertain.

You should contact a medical professional if you recognize signs of infection on a larger wound. These signs include pus, swelling, redness, heat, pain, itching or burning. For an infected scratch or small wound use Elastoplast Silver Healing bandages which provide anti-bacterial protection.

The Elastoplast Waterproof 40s, Fast Healing bandages, Invisible Protection and SOS Burn are waterproof and will not come off while washing or showering. All Elastoplast Plastic bandages as well as the Kids bandages are water resistant.

For wounds on hands and fingers we recommend the Elastoplast Handpack which includes 3 fabric bandages specially shaped for knuckles, joints and fingertips. For more heavy duty protection, use Elastoplast Heavy Fabric Shapes which include extra durable bandages for knuckles and fingertips.
